How we choose programming items

I get a lot of questions from people about how we accept programming items at THE. It's highly scientific and based upon thorough market analysis...NOT. No, it's actually about several key factors:

• The level of professionalism of the presentation is important. If you're going to cold-call apply (send us unsolicited proposals), you really need to include at least some, better all, of the following:
  • A bio
  • References/other events we've heard of that you've presented at before. If you're a new presenter, at least give us a couple of names of presenters who know you. We do check those references.
  • Class titles and descriptions that can be used in the book and on our website.
  • A photo. Really. Doesn't have to be of your face, but we like to include pics on our site when possible. Could be of your hands or of something that inspires your work.
• Unusual classes will often get accepted over the run of the mill. For example, while, we appreciate a good TK class, they do get old after a while. But if you have a special TK style or technique, or you can find a different angle (like, maybe, TK to open the heart chakra, or inspired by Iron Man, or something like that?), that's pretty cool and catches our interest.
• Your proposal includes your needs, if any. Like, please don't schedule me across from my partner. But it isn't so restrictive that we can't schedule your classes at all. 
• Your title is interesting and grabs our attention. 
• Your description is clear and really represents what you're teaching. Hey, a tip: Have someone who has no idea what your class is about read it and tell you what they think it's about in their own words. If they tell you basically what you're intending, you've succeeded!

Just considering these basic concepts will increase your chances of being accepted as a presenter hugely. And helps us make good choices for our events.
