What do we mean by "Geeky"?

I got this question, recently. What do we mean when we say the D+G events are aimed at the Geeky Kinky community? It's a fair question.

First, a history lesson, in brief. Once upon a time, there was an event called The Geeky Kink Event. It was put on by an organization that had been doing other, non-kink events for a number of years. Popular especially with folks who attended those other events and were curious about the kink world, it became know for its quirky culture and unusual programming. It was a great entry event into the kink world. If you were geeky (I'll talk about that word in a few minutes) and wanted to hang with other geeky people in sexy clothes and maybe even tie each other up or spank each other, this was the place to do it! It grew to include a sibling event in NE, too. For reasons I won't revisit here, but which you can read about elsewhere, the events' producer sold those events to me in early 2018. OK, fast-forward to today.

As I put together the replacement events, THE Dungeons + Geekdoms NE and NJ, I've been talking with lots of people I've known for years who are members of the kink community about them. I bought the GKEs so they wouldn't disappear and switched to D+G so we could establish a new identity and evolve the community to be friendlier to rest of the kink world. THE has been producing kink-related events for over 15 years now, starting with our still-wonderful THE Beltane and expanding into events like THE Rope Camp, which was awesome, and THE Fires of Venus, which is our most-requested past event. We want to bring the mix of the geek and kink worlds to more people!

So, what do I mean by "geeky"? I'm referring to a collection of interests that includes, but isn't limited to, science, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, technology, engineering, anime, cosplay, board games, role-playing games, video games, computers and even people who like good books. While there are many geeky/fandom events out there in the wide world of cons, we don't limit a person's interpretation of what "geeky" means, instead allowing you to explore your eclectic interests. So if you're a cooking-nerd or a mythology-nerd or a font-nerd (like me), this is your event. Essentially, what my team and I are attempting to create, is a place for people who think some or all of the above topics are cool and want to hang out with other people who feel that way, too. Our classes range from totally kinky to totally geeky with everything in the middle. Our attendees are similarly ranged. 

I hear people ask about the past GKEs and how we'll be different. The answer is that THE could never put on a GKE-style event. It's just not the way we do our events. That's not meant to be negative commentary on the GKEs. If I didn't love them, I wouldn't have bought them. It's just a fact. THE is a very different company with different priorities and values. We are excited by the opportunity to build our own brand of kink/geek crossover events. We believe that, far from being a TNG-only event, D+G can be a place for all kinksters to have fun and learn together without concern about "aging out" or feeling like intruders in a frat party atmosphere. We want to encourage our younger attendees to keep the events fresh and new and our older attendees to share their knowledge and wisdom.
